Internal Announcement: Expanding Linguistic Clarity at CBS

Effective immediately, CBS News will become a Russian-language only version of the CBS Evening News. This decision follows months of strategic reflection, several confused meetings, and one intern asking, “What if the vibes are just… Slavic now?”

We recognize this represents a departure from tradition. We apologize in advance to Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow, who built a legacy of sober American journalism and, notably, did not once open a broadcast with “Dobryy vecher.”

Our research indicates viewers already feel like they are living inside a dubbed geopolitical thriller. We are simply aligning the audio track with the emotional subtitles.

This initiative is not ideological. It is atmospheric.

Key benefits include:

• Greater authenticity in covering situations that already sound like spy novels

• Reduced tonal whiplash between global tension and stories about regional bake sales

• A smoother transition into the phrase, “We continue to monitor the situation,” which somehow sounds more final in Russian

English subtitles will remain available for audiences who prefer to understand what is happening, though we cannot guarantee clarity.

We stress this change does not affect our commitment to facts, balance, or the occasional segment about a dog who learned to surf.

This is not a pivot. It is a mood adjustment.
