Background

In 2006, Lyon founded and led Band of Brothers, an independent political organization that played a decisive role in flipping control of the U.S. House of Representatives. Under his leadership, Band of Brothers won six challenger congressional races in Republican-held districts, contributing directly to the Democratic takeover of Congress that cycle by competing and winning in hostile terrain others avoided.

Over the course of his career, Lyon managed and advised congressional and U.S. Senate campaigns, served on staff for two presidential campaigns, and worked nationally as a political strategist and veterans advocate. He later served as executive director of two nonprofit organizations focused on expanding and protecting veterans’ benefits.

Since September 2020, Lyon has worked as a Whole Health Coach at the Veterans Health Services Office (VHSO), supporting veterans in navigating health, purpose, and long-term stability.

Internationally, Lyon has worked with USAID-linked initiatives and partners in Southeast Asia, where he contributed to program design and grant development, including drafting portions of a successful grant supporting the Hanoi School of Political Leadership. In that role, he advised and mentored emerging political and civic leaders on governance, democratic resilience, campaign strategy, and ethical political practice in transitional and authoritarian-adjacent environments.

Lyon holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Public Administration from Portland State University.
